Subject: LWVOC Newsletter & Events
From: Lisa K Adkins

Our friends at All Voting is Local Florida have pulled together tri-lingual voter guides (English, Spanish, Haitian Creole) in partnership with Black Voters Matter, Equal Ground Education Fund, Florida Rising Together, Harriet Tubman Freedom Fighters, Hispanic Federation, League of Women Voters of Florida, NAACP Florida Conference and Youth Action Fund.

"It’s essential that we educate our communities and build trust in our democratic process to achieve elections free from discrimination, disinformation, and barriers that limit voters’ freedom to make their voices heard safely. By doing so, we can ensure our access to free and fair elections that guarantee participation for every voter, in their preferred method of voting."--All Voting is Local Florida

Say No to Mid-Decade Redistricting in Florida Presentation
TONIGHT, October 2, 6 pm

At the 50501 Progress Hub
First Unitarian Church of Orlando
1901 E. Robinson St., Orlando
Join LWVOC Co-President, Kathy Schmitz, as she offers this new resource to community activists. This presentation was created by the League of Women Voters of Florida in response to the movement in Florida and other states to redistrict in order to gain partisan political advantage prior to the 2026 midterm congressional elections. This presentation provides information about current and past redistricting efforts, and advocates for the LWVFL and LWVUS positions against mid-decade redistricting. This presentation is designed for community audiences with all levels of background and engagement. All are welcome!

The LWVOC will be joining our state and national Leagues for a "Day of Action" on OCT 4 focusing on government attempts to institute a mid-cycle partisan redistricting.
If you follow us on social media (TAP on the social icons top right of this newsletter) you'll see that we've shared a few "prep" steps to easily help the effort.  Get caught up by reading our Action Steps to Say NO
The panel is expected to focus on the history of the Fair Districts amendment, the resulting court cases and how the redistricting fight may unfold in the coming months. Click HERE to register.
The moderator is the Rev. Kathy Schmitz, president of the League of Women Voters of Orange County. Panelists include Jessica Lowe-Minor, the youngest woman elected to lead the state League, former Florida Supreme Court Justice James Perry, who ruled in the Fair Districts case, and Fritz Wermuth, an attorney with King, Blackwell, Zehnder & Wermuth, who also represented plaintiffs in the case.

Hot Topics Volunteers Needed:
The Hot Topics Committee needs help running slides and checking in registrants during the monthly panel discussions. This is a super easy task if you're comfortable with technology, and you'll have our deepest appreciation as a volunteer. It takes many hands and heads to make Hot Topics happen. : D
Contact co-chairs Diana Smith or Karen Estrin for more information!

Consider sponsoring the Hot Topics program, one of the best public affairs forums in Central Florida. Sponsorship is an outstanding way to get your business or name in front of hundreds of civically engaged professionals for one year, while supporting the League's mission. To further explore how sponsoring Hot Topics can align with your business or personal goals, please contact Lee Rambeau Kemp.

Leaguer Life Lately

Have you wondered WHAT it is that our Voter Services volunteers actually DO when they go to local high schools (often with SOE reps)? Look at this snippet of the form they complete after speaking with the hundreds of students that they encounter.  It's highly impressive that small groups can make such an impact on informing our youngest voting generation of their voting rights, empowering them to set a voting habit early.
