 | FOCUS matters. The LWVOC will be joining our state and national Leagues for a "Day of Action" on OCT 4 focusing on government attempts to institute a mid-cycle partisan redistricting. We'll be asking our legislators...no, we will be DEMANDING they respond by saying NO to mid-cycle redistricting! Floridians voted for fair districts in 2010. Redrawing lines now for partisan advantage goes against the will of the people and our State Constitution! The State Constitution specifically states that “Congressional districts or districting plans may NOT be drawn to favor or disfavor an incumbent or political party.”
HOW will we focus? We're going to "pre-game" leading up to the event with a week of daily suggestions for spreading our message. LOOK for an email soon with a schedule/resources/suggestions for how you can help EMPOWER others to stop this partisan voter grab.
Also, you can continue the focus on this issue by attending our October 8 Hot Topics shown below. We expect a big crowd so register here ASAP!
P.S. SAVE the date, OCT 18, because you can join us to march for LGBTQ+ rights as well as participate in the "No Kings 2" rally; LWVUS is a national partner. More details coming soon.
P.S.S. Don't stop scrolling as this is a very robust newsletter this week!
| | The moderator is the Rev. Kathy Schmitz, president of the League of Women Voters of Orange County. Panelists include Jessica Lowe-Minor, the youngest woman elected to lead the state League, former Florida Supreme Court Justice James Perry, who ruled in the Fair Districts case, and Fritz Wermuth, an attorney with King, Blackwell, Zehnder & Wermuth, who also represented plaintiffs in the case.
| So many NEW members this week that we had to expand the listing! Remember to SHARE our newsletter; encourage your social circle to join the League to empower themselves and others and DEFEND democracy with us! JOIN HERE
