This week we've celebrated Int'l Democracy Day, Nat'l Registration Day, and yesterday was Constitution/Citizenship Day!  For the League, celebration translates to action and that's why our Voter Services Committee was VERY busy in the last week providing voter education to our youngest voting generation.  Enjoy these snapshots from local school visits and keep scrolling to find a volunteer opportunity that you can join.

LWVOC Co-President Rev. Kathy Schmitz was at the launch of the new Civic Advisory Council from the Orange County FL Supervisor of Elections. Also on hand was Ricardo Negro-Almovodar from All Voting is Local and a participant in this month's Hot Topics program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
LWVOC seeks Part-Time Data & Operations Manager  Are you a tech-savvy person with an eye for detail? We're looking for someone to fill a paid, part-time contract position to help our local league run smoothly. This role is crucial for keeping our leaders and members informed, and it offers a flexible work schedule.
 
This position will support the operations of our local league by making timely and accurate membership and other information available to leaders and members. It requires comfort with technology and a willingness to learn new systems. Let us know if this might be one of the ways you Empower Voters and Defend Democracy. In the Community



The Global Peace Film Fest Sept. 16-21 will host 20 films with 13 of them directed by women. LWVOC members/supporters can use a unique code L3@wv for online ticket sales. With the use of this code, both get 10% off each ticket AND GPFF will donate $4 from each ticket to LWVOC. 
The Orlando Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 9/28/25 at 5pm at the northeast corner of Lake Eola, near the Pagoda.
 
This is being held simultaneously with the Prayer Vigil that is held outside the entrance to the Everglades Detention Center on Alligator Alley.

The LWV of Broward County invites all Leaguers to a special presentation on  October 8th 7pm via zoom, in relation to the Mid-Decade Redistricting efforts. The presentation will focus on major issues dominating partisan politics in Florida, mid-decade redistricting, changes in election rules and recent litigation, and voting patterns on statewide ballot measures.
Guest speaker: Dr. Daniel A. Smith, a Professor and former Chair of Political Science at the University of Florida

The Celebration of Terry Gillam’s life will be held in the Camellia Room at Harry P. Leu Gardens on September 28 from 2:00 to 4:00.
Her friends and fans are invited to join her family in reflecting on what a remarkable and delightful person she was. As the celebration will be catered, an RSVP to Lynn Gillam by September 15 is appreciated. His email address is lynnalg39@gmail.com.
