Panelists include Amy Weintraub, reproductive rights program director at Progress Florida; Dr. Kathryn Berryman, an Orlando ob-gyn who specializes in high-risk pregnancies; Taylor Aguilera, the statewide organizing director for Floridians Protecting Freedom, the coalition behind the amendment; Kait Thomson, senior director of public affairs for Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, and Guerdy Remy, a nurse who has a personal abortion story.

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity hosted a neighborhood Community Forum on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Shiloh Baptist Church. Participants of the Show Up and Vote For Community Empowerment event had an extra treat in store– a visit to the historic Wells Built Museum. Lee Rambeau Kemp, LWVOC VP and Speaker at the event, summed up the vibrant and engaging presentations and the morning as an “Awesome way to partner with other community organizations to raise the bar on getting out the vote!”

LWVOC Civic Engagement

Cindy Haas and Victor Collazo joined many Voter Services volunteers as part of the High School outreach program led by Betty Saulpaugh to register students. Through their efforts to visit all 22 public high schools in Orange County, over 125 students have been registered. With the newest initiative with OCPS, they hope to more than double that number. City of Orlando Dist. 5 Candidate Forum at Jones HS Auditorium moderated by Co-President Tiffany Hughes. The event is hosted by West Lakes Partnership and the Orlando Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

MAY 3, Reclaim the Freedom to Learn
The DEIA Committee invites LWVOC members to attend a National Day of Action to defend the freedom and right to learn. In solidarity with the African American Policy Forum, Florida Rising will host a virtual Lunch and Learn on May 3 from 12p-1p.

Dr. Tamika Hobbs, Historian and Author will engage attendees in a conversation about the impact of book bans on Florida's students, followed by breakout sessions to discuss how we fight back. Join us in this important effort to defend the truth while Protecting our Democracy
