The Alpha Kappa Alpha 71st Southern Atlantic Regional Conference in Orlando began April 3rd with a Voter Mobilization Event at St. Mark AME Church. The AKA’s partnered with local voting rights groups including the LWVOC, Equal Ground, OC Branch of the NAACP, Faith in Florida, Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, and Florida Rising. A canvas activity was planned but was canceled due to weather, and a voter empowerment presentation was provided by Equal Ground followed by remarks from elected officials and partners. The event closed with a dynamic call to action from mother and daughter democracy defenders Dr. Lavon Bracy and Rep. Lavon Bracy Davis. Joan Erwin, Linda Dalton, Sadie Holzmeyer, and Saudi Ellis attended on behalf of the LWVOC.

They interact regularly with legislators and had 24 co-sponsors of the bill in the 2024 Florida Legislative session. "Here are the six amendments that Floridians will vote on in November"
With the state Supreme Court this week signing off on ballot initiatives about abortion rights and recreational use of marijuana, Floridians in November will vote on six proposed constitutional amendments. To pass, they must get at least 60% of the vote.
